サーファーの両親のもとに生まれたブラジル人。幼い頃から海が身近にあり、海洋学なども学んだ彼女は、日本政府の奨学生として高知大学への留学経験もあり、日本語も流暢。

日本でも滞在経験、日本のカルチャーの美しさなど、お話聞きました。

Roberta Beltrão PhD
Environmental Consultant, Oceanographer, and Marine Ecologist
I was born In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I grew up in Ipanema (the place from the song Girl from Ipanema). My parents met surfing in the ’60s, so I was raised by the sea, constantly surfing, diving and sailing. Therefore, my option of studies. I studied Oceanography at University and have a Master’s Degree in Marine Ecology. I made a career as an environmental consultant. In 2008, I went to Japan with a scholarship from the Japanese government as a PhD candidate. I completed my PhD at Kochi University by the end of 2011. I lived in Kochi City for five months, then moved to a small village called Usa in Tosa, where the research centre was. It was amazing four years of my life.
